Corporate Investment Account

Corporate Investment

What is it?

Just as an individual might choose to invest surplus money in order to generate better long-term returns than are available from cash deposits, a business that chooses not to distribute all of its profits might also wish to try to earn more than its bank is offering it on that money, particularly if the cash is likely to be held within the company for many years*. With rising inflation, generating a better return on cash reserves has rarely been more important.

One option that we explore with owners is investing some of the cash they hold into collective investments using a Corporate Investment Account. This can potentially increase the income and/or capital available to the business and help the company reserves maintain their real value. This option of course carries more risk than leaving cash on deposit, and any decision to invest will be made after a full discussion about your attitude to risk and capacity for loss.

The taxation of the investment return depends upon the way the company prepares its accounts. For most companies, income and gains are accounted for annually and are subject to corporation tax, although micro-entities are permitted to defer tax on gains until the eventual encashment of an investment.

In all cases, we ensure that any option considered is suitable for you and your company and that you fully understand the advantages and disadvantages before proceeding.

*It is worth noting that excess cash or investments held within a company can impact Business Relief although investments are not treated any differently from cash in this regard.

We value long term relationships with our clients; but what do our clients say about us?

In my case I came to Hammond & Raggett to discuss the potential transfer of a final salary pension to a managed fund.

Considering the transfer of a final salary pension is probably the most significant decision I will make over my personal finances in my lifetime. Hammond & Raggett provided an excellent detailed financial analysis of the options open to me in advance of my meeting. In my one to one meetings with Hammond & Raggett they explained clearly the financial implications giving the pros and cons of any decision in language that was easy to understand.

Once the decision was made the follow up service and administration has been excellent. The fund was set up last November and I receive regular updates on the investment strategy. I feel I can call on their services at any time should I need them. I regard Hammond & Raggett as a trusted advisor and have complete confidence in their ability to service my personal financial requirements.”

Chartered Financial Planners

Chartered status is an objective mark of professional standing among all professions. It is awarded to firms who can demonstrate commitment to developing knowledge, enhancing capability and maintaining ethical standards. We are proud that in 2007, we were one of the very first firms in the UK to be awarded Chartered Financial Planner status, and we work hard to have this renewed each year. We are still one of only 705 firms out of a total of 5,270 authorised financial adviser firms to be awarded this prestigious designation.
